Missisquoi-Nord, Centre d'action bénévole
Contenu
The Missisquoi-North Volunteer Action Centre has been known as such only since June 12, 2006. It is a not-for-profit secular organization of community aid. It receives financial assistance in the form of grants from l'Agence de la santé et des services sociaux de l'Estrie, in addition to community donations. The Missisquoi-North CAB offers support to volunteers, to organizations and for the development of volunteer action and to community development. Its direct services, more than 35, are centred on home care, the Ken Jones Centre for the handicapped, the Youth Center, Partage/Share, Nutri-santé as well as a network of volunteer drivers.
Prior to June 2006, the Missisquoi-North Volunteer Action Centre was known as Citizen Advocacy - Parrainage civique. Founded and supported by the United Church of Canada, Citizen Advocacy offered support services to persons in difficulty, day care services, and help with employment. The Mountain Valley Outreach Mission of the United Church underwrote the finances of Citizen Advocacy-Parrainage civique from 1986 to 1995, after which the Corporation of Citizen Advocacy – Parrainage civique resumed its former status as an independent charity. In 1984, the organization moved to Mansonville in order to serve the communities of the Township of Potton and the Municipality of East Bolton. Services were also extended toward South Stukely, Stukely Village and Eastman, sectors it continues to serve.[1]
This volunteer centre follows a tradition of self-help and community aid, prevalent in Potton history.
