Leadville, Chemin de

Contenu

Chemin de Leadville leads to residential settlements in Leadville, an officially named hamlet in Potton, and to an unmanned maritime Customs post on the lakeshore.  A Frontier Canada East map (1863) names this road as the King's Highway.  Throughout my youth, this name was the common name locally.  Interestingly, the map shows no fewer than five roads branching from it leading into Vermont.  While some of these roads still exist, no border crossing is authorized in Potton except on Route 243 South, at Highwater.

As mentioned, the name is drawn from the lead mine that once was operated near the lake.  At places, the road offers stunning open views to the south.

Ce chemin conduit au hameau dénommé officiellement « Leadville ».[1]
