Immortelles – a name with obvious connotation in either language.  Two plants are commonly called immortelles in Quebec: the Antennaria canadensis, commonly named "pussy toes'' for its cluster of soft, furry flower heads.  These are generally found in clumps, growing in the wild where the soil is fairly thin and dry.  The other common immortelle is the Anaphalis margaritacea, which is more commonly found massed in gardens.  White papery bracts enclose tiny yellow flowers.  The blossoms can be dried for durable bouquets, hence the common name of “everlasting”.
