Grange-Ronde de Mansonville, Place de la

Contenu

Place de la Grange-Ronde is the landscaped space located on rue Principale in Mansonville, directly in front of the Round Barn, opposite the Catholic Church.  In 2010, the Municipality acquired the farm-house that partially obscured the view of the barn.  It was in disrepair and was demolished.  Its removal allowed for an unimpeded view from the main road.  Landscaping was done in the summer of 2012 to groom the public space with walkways and a market area for public use, thus creating a practical focus to showcase the Round Barn.

The area includes roofed spaces with counters that are permanently installed within distinct bays, as vendor space, in Mansonville's public market.  When the counters are not in use, they may be fixed in the vertical position thereby providing excellent exhibition panels.  On these, the history and architecture of the Round Barn itself, the history of Potton prepared by Potton Heritage, as well as photographic depictions of the natural heritage landscapes of Potton will eventually be featured.

Place de la Grange-Ronde was designed by architect Michel Bastien, a Potton resident.  The public space was formally inaugurated on September 29, 2012 as part of the 100th Anniversary celebrations of the Round Barn.
