Alphonse-Rouillard, Chemin

Contenu

This road is found on lands having once belonged to Alphonse Rouillard (1882-1956).  Alphonse Rouillard was a founding member of the Caisse populaire de Mansonville.  Alphonse Rouillard and his wife Adelia (1892-1952) are interred in the Saint-Cajetan cemetery.  Many members of the Rouillard family still live in Potton, including on the original farm, where a bed and breakfast is located in their heritage home on Peabody Road.  A granddaughter of Alphonse Rouillard, Lorraine Rouillard, is planning to research and write the history of the many French Canadian families who pioneered in Potton.  Unfortunately, the history of these families has not been as well documented as those of the loyalist influence; however, their contribution was no less important to the texture and cultural richness of our community.  Potton Heritage lauds her effort and we wish her good fortune in taking on such an ambitious project.
