Memoriam, War Mémorial

Contenu

Potton's Memorial to those residents who served and were killed in World Wars I & II, as well as in the Korean conflict, is located on Main Street in Mansonville, between the former United Church building and St. Paul's Anglican Church.  The Canadian Legion erected the Cenotaph in 1962.  On it is inscribed: Memoriam forum retinebimus  “ We will remember them – Nous nous souvenons d'eux. »  The Memorial is granite and was designed by Arthur Aiken, a native son of Potton, who joined the Canadian army on May 11, 1942, when he was 20 years old.

On the open book of the Memorial, are inscribed the names of the war dead from Potton. The first Mansonville Intermediate School once stood on this site. It was used until the new brick school, also called Mansonville Intermediate, was completed, and then sold by auction with the proviso of removal.  Hilmar Krausser was the highest bid and respected his obligations to remove the building.
