Vallée-Missisquoi, Chemin de la
Contenu
This road crosses the Missisquoi valley and follows the river of the same name. Before 1991, this road was called Richford Road, or Route 105A, leading eventually to the customs at East Richford, Vermont. In part, it follows the old stage route from St. Johns to Troy, in Vermont. It was rebuilt in 1948 – before which time travel to the Dunkin area was along the south side of the Missisquoi River.
“At one time, the present road from Highwater to Dunkin was a secondary road used only at flood time; the main road was on the south side of the River past the Highwater Station down past the Baker Talc and the old Fred Crowell place.”[1]
Another trail once led to Mansonville as well – but along higher ridges than the present route.
See Old Stewart Road notation.
