This odonym was chosen by the Municipality in 1998 to emphasize the connection of solidarity amongst the taxpayer–residents on the road: “le lien de solidarité qu'entretiennent les contribuables qui s'y trouvent”.
It was Stanley Mierzwinski, owner of the property bordering this street, who originally proposed the name. Anna Tomera, a Polish resident of Schoolcraft Road, confirms this and further explains that the intention was to perpetuate the solidarity of Potton's Polish resident community with the Solidarity movement prevalent in Poland.
The Solidarność, or Polish Solidarity movement, grew out of resistance to communist dictates of the 1980's and was largely led by Lech Walesa, who in August 1980 led the Gdansk shipyard strike which gave rise to a larger wave of strikes over much of Poland. The primary demands were for workers' rights. The authorities were forced to capitulate and to negotiate with Walesa the Gdansk Agreement of August 31, 1980, which gave the workers the right to strike and to organize their own independent union. The movement led to similar revolts amongst other trades, and was considered as a prime motivation of the dismantlement of the Polish communist government of General Jaruselski. At the end of August 1989, a governing coalition led by Solidarność was formed. In December, Lech Wałęsa left the leadership of Solidarność and was elected President of Poland. Walesa was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1983.[1]

Jacques Marcoux qui habite près de cette rue, nous indique que c’est monsieur Stanley Mierwinsky, propriétaire des terrains bordant cette rue et polonais d’origine, qui a proposé ce nom. Il voulait souligner l’apport du mouvement Solidarność (Solidarité en polonais) à la résistance de la nation polonaise contre la dictature communiste.
Solidarność est une fédération de syndicats polonais fondée le 31 août 1980 et dirigée à l'origine par Lech Wałęsa. Les idées du mouvement Solidarité se sont très rapidement répandues à travers la Pologne ; de plus en plus de syndicats ont été formés et ont rejoint la fédération. Son programme, bien que centré sur les revendications syndicales, a été perçu partout comme la première étape pour provoquer le démantèlement du monopole du Parti communiste polonais. Dès la fin du mois d'août 1989, un gouvernement de coalition mené par Solidarność a été formé. En décembre, Lech Wałęsa a quitté son poste dans Solidarność et a été élu Président de la Pologne.[2]
