The Singer Brook flows from Étang aux herbages, sometimes simply called the Beaver Pond, which appears to be of a sizeable surface area. Another small brook flows from Cliff Lake and joins the Singer Brook, which then empties into Ruiter Brook at a lower elevation. All of this area is a favoured haunt of the hard-core hiker, it seems.

Since Singer history was given above, and since sewing makes one think of torn seams, needle and thread. How useful is a safety pin when none of these are handy? Here's a bit of trivia – just to make you smile. Some history is trivial, after all!

On April 10, 1849, Walter Hunt was granted US patent for his safety pin. Hunt's pin was made from one piece of wire, which was coiled into a spring at one end and a separate clasp and point at the other end, allowing the point of the wire to be forced by the spring into the clasp. It was the first pin to have a clasp and spring action. Hunt claimed that it was designed to keep fingers safe from injury – hence the name! Now, consider for a moment how diapers were kept on babies' bottoms before safety pins – or Huggies with tabs!

Le nom fait référence à la compagnie de machines à coudre Singer, propriétaire des terrains riverains.^[1].

Cette compagnie, la Singer Sewing Machine Co., a établi un village de bûcherons près du Ruisseau Ruiter. Ce campement était pourvu de tous les services essentiels. Les gens du Canton appelait ce lieu Singerville. Le bois coupé surtout entre 1918 et 1926 servait à fabriquer les cabinets des machines à coudre à St-Jean sur le Richelieu. La coupe s’est terminé en 1940.Cette usine de Singer ouverte en 1906, a fermé le 31 mars 1986.^[2]

Historique de la Singer.1851 - Création par Isaac Singer de SINGER® : Société de fabrication et de vente de machines à coudre. 1853 - SINGER® installe ses bureaux et son unité de production dans la ville de New York. La société se rebaptise SINGER MANUFACTURING COMPANY. 1855 - SINGER® reçoit un premier prix à la foire de Paris, et ouvre une filiale à Paris ce qui fait de SINGER® la première vraie multinationale ! 1861 - Les ventes en Europe dépassent celles des Etats-Unis. La marque au « S » rouge SINGER® était destinée à devenir un des plus grands symboles du monde.1884 - La statue de la liberté est offerte aux Etats-Unis : elle ressemble à Isabella Singer. 1890 - SINGER® détient 80 % du marché mondial de la Machine à coudre ! 1908 - L’immeuble SINGER® à New York est le premier gratte-ciel et le batiment le plus haut du monde avec 47 étages. 1861 - La première voiture SINGER®. 1933 - Inauguration des unités de production de Monza en Italie et de Bonniéres en France.Et elle existe toujours.^[3]
