Rodrigue, Chemin

Contenu

Chemin Rodrigue is the first road on the right leading from the international boundary on Route 243 north.  The Rodrigue family arrived in Potton from Lac-Drolet, in the area of Mégantic, on July 6, 1943, the date of the seventh child's birthday.  Paul Rodrigue (1895-1975) and his wife, Albertine Lessard (1901-1968), came equipped with a sizeable family to the farm, purchased from a Mr. M. Murphy.  Here, Mr. and Mrs. Rodrigue raised a family of twelve children, a half dozen of each girls and boys!  Paul Rodrigue and his wife Albertine Lessard are both interred in the Saint-Cajetan Cemetery of Mansonville.  Their daughter Brigitte and her husband were killed on Air Canada Flight 621 crash near Toronto on July 5, 1970, in one of Canada's worst air disasters.  Many descendants of the Paul Rodrigue family still reside in Mansonville, among whom Christian Rodrigue, a long time municipal councillor.

I gleaned this information from Roch Rodrigue, the seventh Rodrigue child mentioned above!  He also told me that Colgan family, the nearest neighbours, had purchased what had been the farm of Moses Elkins, Potton's first documented pioneer family, who arrived here on June 17, 1797.
