Province Hill, Hameau

Contenu

Although there was a settlement in Province Hill at one time, like so much of history, it is now but a memory.  Several large farms, owned by those whose names appear in the Cemetery described above, likely formed a loose community served at one time by a post office.  The only reference I have confirmed is one found in Taylor's History of Brome County, Volume II, where he identifies the “ Family Record of Isaiah R. Harvey of Province Hill, Potton. »[1]

“ Isaiah Harvey, born in 1776, was engaged in the work of surveying Potton.  He was a sworn surveyor, born in England, settled in Potton on the farm now owned by Urban Darling (Leverett Hand).  His wife was Martha Read from Scotland. »[2]  Isaiah Harvey and wife repose in the Province Hill Cemetery.
