This well kept little cemetery is situated on Chemin de Province Hill, near the covered bridge (pont de la Frontière).  It seems to have been created in the mid 1830's.  The names of some of Potton's oldest families are engraved on the gravestones: Skinner, Sargent, Gardyne, Bailey, Blanchard, and Elkins to name but a few.  Some say that Province Hill was so named because the hills of the vicinity were visible from the Missisquoi valley in Vermont – and noted as being in the Province of Quebec – hence Province Hill.  However, I am more inclined to think that its general location, being close to what used to be named the “ province line » or the US/Canada border, is the more plausible reason for the name.  Taylor settles the matter “ Province Hill was so named because of the high elevation of land just on the border of the Province. »^[1]
