Pipeline, Chemin du
Contenu
This road follows, in part, the route of the cross-border Portland-Montreal Pipeline originating in Portland, Maine to the refineries of East End Montreal. It leads to the automated pumping station operated by Montreal Pipeline Limited. The Pipeline was begun in 1941, presumably for the war effort. Two main pumping stations still exist, at Highwater and another at Saint-Césaire. Before automation, employees of the pumping station in Potton lived in company housing located on site, which was dismantled in the early 1960's when these homes were offered for sale on condition they be removed from the site.
Potton Heritage Association has published a folder entitled Highwater, that might interest you.
