Perce-neige in English is a snowdrop! A good description for the plant that does quite literally pierce the receding snows – its bit of greenery and nodding white cap, heralding the end of winter. Snowdrops are extraordinarily hardy, especially the common species, and can be depended on to flower very early whatever the weather – the colder and gloomier it is, the longer the blooms last, but in a sunny warm season they are comparatively fleeting. Galanthus nivalis is the Latin name.
Cette appellation, composée de perce et de neige, décrit bien cette petite plante bulbeuse ornementale dont les fleurs blanches s’épanouissent dès la fin de l’hiver, à travers la neige. De la famille des amaryllidacées, comme le narcisse. Importée en bulbe, elle est très populaire dans les plates-bandes.
