Peabody School, École
Contenu
This notation refers to the little building, built in 1865, situated at the corner of Chemin Peabody and Chemin du Lac, near Vale Perkins. Peabody School is not a common name for the Jones' School. When a new Protestant schoolhouse was built, immediately across the road, the Jones' school closed, and the United Church in Mansonville bought the old building in 1949. The old school was then used for regular church services from that time, until it closed in the 1960's. Thereafter, the building was used only seasonally as a Church. The building was sold to private hands in 2010.
Historically, the building was also used by the Vale Perkins community for gatherings of a social nature, as well as a polling station in elections. Locally, it was referred to as “The Hall”.
Située au coin des Chemin Peabody et Chemin du Lac. Construite en 1865, cette ancienne école de rang appartient maintenant à la United Church. Elle s’en sert comme desserte occasionnelle.[1]
