Otis-McNeil, Rue [2018]

Contenu

As of November 5, 2012, this street name has changed to rue Rudolf-Tomuschat.  It is written of here because the name Otis-McNeil was part of the original Répertoire toponymique.  Otis-McNeil has been reserved by the Council for the naming of a subsequent street or road in this Municipality.  The following is a short description of this family name, familiar in the Municipality of Potton since the 1800's.

The name of this road was suggested by Ross McNeil to honor his father Otis McNeil, for whom McNeil's Crossing, a whistle stop on the Orford Mountain Railway situated on Traver Road, was once named.  Plate # 89 of Potton d'antan, Yesterdays of Potton shows the George Willard block shoe last mill located at McNeil's Crossing.  Otis McNeil (1880-1935) and wife Elizabeth (1893-1960) repose in the Mansonville Cemetery, with others of the McNeil family.  That of Portus McNeil (1834-1884) appears to be the oldest grave of the family.  His wife Louisa Wadleigh (1842-1927) lies beside him.

Plate # 51 in Potton d'antan, Yesterdays of Potton depicts Coffin Otis Wadleigh maternal great-grandfather to Ross McNeil.

Cet odonyme a été rayé en mars 2013 pour faire place à celui de « rue Tomuschat ».
