Neil Alden Armstrong, born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, on August 5, 1930, was an astronaut and test pilot, among other distinguishing careers.  He was the first person to set foot upon the moon on July 21, 1969, as mission commander of the American Apollo 11 moon landing mission.  His words still resonate “ That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind. »  He died at age 82, on August 25, 2012^[1]

In order to receive approval for this road name and honour the accomplishment of Neil Armstong, the astronaut, our well-informed sources tell us that municipal authorities confirmed to the Commission de toponymie du Québec that the name honoured a noted Potton resident.  The Commission rules prohibit place names in honour of a living person, therefore we believe that only Potton honored astronaut Neil Armstrong in quite this way.

Neil-Armstrong Street now joins Joseph-Blanchet Street.  When these two street names were assigned, each was a cul-de-sac, meaning without outlet.  As houses were built, a small section of road was constructed, and now the two connect, with the resultant confusion, soon to be rectified by the Council.  Updates will be available on the Potton Heritage website.
