20. Cimetière Brown | Privé
Il serait difficile de reconnaître le cimetière photographié ci-dessus si l’on ne savait pas qu’il se trouve sur le terrain de la ferme Brown. La nature et le temps ont fait leur œuvre.
On ignore à quel moment précis des membres de la famille Brown sont arrivés à Potton. Car cette famille s’était d’abord établie sur la rive Est du lac Memphrémagog avant que certains de ses membres traversent le lac pour s’installer dans le secteur Owl’s Head – Leadville, sur un terrain acheté de Samuel Perkins. On pense que les frères James et Raymond Brown ont hérité de la terre familiale, où ils ont vécu et élevé leurs familles respectives. James et Bessie Prout Brown ont eu six enfants : les jumelles Maude et Margaret, Julia, Myron, Edgar et Harley, alors que Raymond et Dorothy Brown en ont eu trois : Kathleen, Pearl et Charles. Toutefois, aucune de ces personnes n’a été enterrée dans le cimetière Brown.
Les registres familiaux sont incomplets, indiquant seulement les dates de naissance et de décès sans mentionner les lieux de sépulture. C’est pourquoi il est impossible de préciser quels ancêtres de James et Raymond Brown gisent dans le petit terrain situé non loin des fondations de pierre d’une grange, ensevelies sous la végétation.

The burial ground shown in the picture above would scarcely be recognized were its location on the Brown farm not known. Nature has most efficiently reclaimed its own.
Exactly when members of the Brown family settled in Potton is difficult to trace, for they settled originally on the East side of Memphremagog and some made homes on land in the Owl’s Head – Leadville area. Brothers James and Raymond Brown appear to have inherited the land, acquired originally from Samuel Perkins, where they lived and raised their families. James and Bessie Prout Brown had six children: twins Maude and Margaret, Julia, Myron, Edgar and Harley. The children of Raymond and Dorothy Brown were Kathleen, Pearl and Charles. None of those named above is buried in the Brown Cemetery.
Family records appear to be incomplete, and indicate only dates of birth and death without mention of a burial site. It is therefore impossible to confirm which of the Brown family from whom the above named are descended, lie in this little plot of ground, not far from the overgrown stone foundation of a barn.
